April 2010SoftMap Publishing is responsible for the
publishing and distribution of SoftMap topographic maps on CD-ROM. We continue
to offer the popular series of Canadian topographic data on CD-ROM: the topo50
series.
SoftMap Technologies is a separate
company and is not related to SoftMap Publishing. SoftMap Technologies closed
at the end of December 2009. They offered subscriptions to on-line topographic
maps, including TopoWeb Canada, TopoWeb Quebec and TopoWeb Ontario. These
subscriptions are no longer available.
SoftMap Technologies also controlled the
registration process during installation of our topo50 products, which meant
that when they closed clients could no longer install Version 5 of topo50, and
therefore we could no longer offer Version 5 for sale.
With ongoing demand for
Canadian topo data on CD-ROM, we looked for a way to continue to offer products
that didn't need a registration process. We have therefore decided to revert to
Version 4 of the software.
Version
4 is a well-used, well-trusted version of the software. For customers,
the only meaningful difference between Version 4 and Version 5 is that Version
4 does not contain an interface to transfer routes and waypoints to a
GPS. However, it works just fine on your computer - find any location in
seconds and print any area to the scale that you select.
Customers have already told us
that Version 4 runs in the newer versions of Windows (Vista and 7) without
problem.
Future
Updates
Due to the closure of SoftMap Technologies Inc.
who produced the software, we regret that no future updates will be
offered.
